Zero-tolerance policies and the proliferation of law enforcement officers in schools have funneled many students into the criminal legal system. This brief outlines steps school districts, cities, and states can take to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline. Recommendations include divesting from over-policing, investing in supportive programs for students, and creating opportunities for students to gain employment experience and thrive outside of school. This document also highlights model policies implemented by various state and local governments targeted at tackling some of these issues.
