Year 2022
Level City or Town, National
State(s) All States
Policy Areas Public Safety, Transportation & Mobility
Pedestrian fatalities are rising nationwide, disproportionately impacting marginalized communities, including lower-income neighborhoods and people of color. To address this, cities should prioritize immediate safety improvements on dangerous streets while adopting long-term systemic changes, such as Complete Streets policies and Vision Zero action plans. Integrating green infrastructure and equitable land use into urban planning can further enhance pedestrian safety. This report emphasizes the need for improved data collection and research to identify disparities and guide effective interventions that promote safer, more inclusive communities.
