Eliminating Racial Disparities in Maternal and Infant Mortality

Black women experience alarming health disparities in the United States during pregnancy and childbirth, suffering from increased rates of severe maternal morbidity, preventable maternal deaths, and mistreatment in healthcare settings. To address the crisis, the brief proposes comprehensive changes to healthcare systems, policies, and practices. Recommendations include providing culturally centered care, diversifying care teams, passing legislative acts, addressing mental health issues, and addressing underlying economic disparities.
