2009 San Francisco Ordinance 202 Language Access
Level City or Town, County
Policy Areas Civil Rights
This ordinance requires City Departments to translate the following written materials into languages spoken by a substantial number of limited English speaking persons: applications to receive benefits or services; tests for which knowledge of written English is not required; materials explaining a Department's services or programs; complaint forms; and more. It also requires them to translate public meetings or hearings upon request, and mandates Departments involved in crisis situations (i.e. health emergencies, refugee relief) to include language service protocols in their Department Compliance Plans.
