Vacant, abandoned, and deteriorated properties often go unaddressed, leading to serious public health and safety risks such as mold, structural hazards, pest infestations, and neighborhood blight. Traditional code enforcement responses may be inefficient, punitive, or fail to account for vulnerable owners' circumstances. Strategic code enforcement offers an equitable, efficient, and effective approach to addressing property deterioration. It uses data, community input, and cross-agency collaboration to prioritize interventions, focus limited resources, and support responsible property maintenance.
