Local government plays a key role in ensuring all young children have the resources and opportunities to reach their full potential and with their families, live healthy and prosperous lives. Elected officials must understand how to navigate the city governance structure to build strong and effective programs, policies, and practices for young children prenatal through age 8 years and their families. City leaders should align early childhood agendas with municipal priorities, collaborate across departments, and build political will and diverse community engagement strategies.
