Medicaid improves the health of recipients and strengthens both the healthcare system and the U.S. economy, but issues in enrollment, renewal, and usage create barriers to accessing quality service. Most Medicaid legislation is made at the federal level, but states have some influence in getting coverage and increasing access for their communities. This report makes recommendations for state policymakers to protect their constituents by conducting outreach efforts, improving the application and renewal processes, and removing barriers to accessing health services through Medicaid.
