Vision Zero: From Concept to Implementation

One of the most immediate and consequential improvements local governments can make to traffic safety is to implement speeding restrictions and effective enforcement mechanisms. This document outlines the city of Bellevue's Speed Management Plan, which sets 20 mph speed limits on local streets, and uses technological interventions to proactively identify traffic conflicts. Traffic safety measures were linked to the deployment of pedestrian intervals and the use of traffic cameras. Further actions included the implementation of continental crosswalks and securing a $1.2 million grant for road safety improvements.
