An Active Roadmap: Best Practices in Rural Mobility

Multimodal transportation systems will increase access to jobs and economic opportunities in small towns and rural communities. This report assesses multimodal transportation and land use conditions in rural America to provide best practices for promoting growth. Strategies include adopting transportation-oriented zoning ordinances, formal practices for evaluating development projects, creating affordable fixed-route bus services, and repurposing portions of large streets into bike lanes and sidewalks.
