Type Fact Sheet or Infographic
Year 2022
Level City or Town
State(s) Illinois
Policy Areas Community Development, Housing, Transportation & Mobility
The Connected Communities Ordinance expanded Chicago's transit-oriented development (TOD) policies by reducing parking minimums, increasing allowable building height and density, and creating new incentives for affordable and accessible housing near transit. It streamlines zoning for developments within ½ mile of CTA and Metra stations and ¼ mile from high-frequency bus lines, and restricts low-density de-conversions in displacement-prone areas to preserve housing access.
