2022 Seattle Ordinance 126593 Regarding Just Cause Evictions

Type Ordinance or Resolution
Year 2022
Level City or Town
State(s) Washington
Policy Areas Economic Justice, Housing
This ordinance outlines changes to certain eviction defenses in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. It states that if a tenant proves that they've suffered a financial hardship during the public emergency which inhibited their ability to pay rent, they can explain these circumstances as a defense to eviction. This defense is valid for cases in which a tenant would be required to vacate within six months after the termination of the city's eviction moratorium.
