The production and management of single-use food and beverage ware have significant environmental impacts, including but not limited to contamination; consumption of energy, water, and nonrenewable fossil fuels; and emissions of greenhouse gasses. In order to address this, this ordinance prohibits the sale or use of single-use food service ware made with fluorinated chemicals, or that is not recyclable or compostable. Additionally, this ordinance requires that food service ware accessories be provided only on request or at self-service stations, and requires the usage of reusable beverage cups at events that necessitate a City permit or are held on City-owned property.
