America's small businesses are facing an existential crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic has closed shops and offices across the nation, with dire economic consequences. And the local governments and nonprofit organizations that support small businesses are on the front lines of this crisis. In this document, the Institute for Local Self-Reliance outlines three major tasks at hand for community leaders in their efforts to support local businesses. These tasks include providing quick relief to keep businesses afloat, helping businesses adapt and pivot, and lastly, fixing systemic problems that the pandemic has laid bare.
