New Mexico Community Schools_ Improving Student Opportunities and Outcomes

Policy Areas Education
School districts across the nation are failing to achieve equitable outcomes for students across all demographic metrics including race/ethnicity, income, home language, special education status and more. They struggle to close gaps with inadequate resources and growing student needs. New Mexico's community schools framework is seeing improvement across a range of indicators, including growth in test scores, increased graduation rates, reduced chronic absence, increased student engagement and connectedness, improved school climate, greater access to mental and physical health care, and stronger family engagement. By partnering with local organizations and families, they organize in- and out-of-school resources and supports, such as physical and mental health services, meals, after-school programming, and other learning and career opportunities to address the specific needs of their communities.
