This ordinance continues King County’s requirement to use green building and sustainable development practices in all capital projects that the county plans or grants funds for. Green building and sustainable development practices are those that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce pollution, reduce the use of natural resources, reduce energy and other operating costs, create healthier and more appealing environments for the visiting public and for King County employees, and more. The LEED rating system will be used to assess building performance and their ability to meet sustainability goals.
