Failing economic development approaches, grounded in wealth inequality, lead to inequitable an unsustainable communities. Community Wealth Building (CWB) is an economic development model that transforms local economies using existing resources and policy levers. This guide is a practical framework local officials can utilize, in collaboration with community activists and organizations, to improve the nature and operations of their local economy. Case studies from Chicago and St. Louis highlight how CWB produces better outcomes as a matter of course, working in service of people, place and planet.
