Technological Change in Health Care Delivery: Its Drivers and Consequences for Work and Workers

The potential of technological advancements to improve service delivery, expand access, reduce costs, and improve chronic disease management in the health care sector, also presents critical challenge to the workforce. This report finds that technologies like telemedicine, portable systems and service robots, and the integration of AI, will result in significant job displacement and a reduction in workers collective bargaining power. A work-centered approach prioritizes enhancing the work environment and the effectiveness of workers by aligning technological advancements with the strengths of existing workers, to foster job satisfaction and consequently improved service delivery.
