Foster youth are at a high risk for homelessness as they transition to independent living as young adults. The Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) Initiative provides Housing Choice Vouchers and supportive services to supplement local child welfare agencies nationwide. Community leaders must encourage child welfare agencies to provide stable, developmentally appropriate housing options as youth move towards emancipation and independence. Further funding and support can ensure the success of the initiative and reduce racial wealth disparities.
