New York City's congestion pricing program, also known as the Central Business District Tolling Program (CBDTP), officially began on January 5, 2025. The program is intended to reduce traffic congestion by charging vehicles entering Manhattan south of 60th Street a toll. Authorized in 2019 under the Traffic Mobility Act, the goal is to encourage public transportation use, reduce traffic and travel time, lead to safer streets and cleaner air, reduce emissions, improve quality of life, and raise revenue for public transit improvements.
