Zero waste is the concept of composting, reusing, and recycling all materials so no waste is sent to landfills, incinerators, or the ocean. Fort Collins has used key policies to pursue zero waste, including: providing recycling universally to all residents and businesses; prohibiting electronic equipment, recyclable cardboard, other recyclables, and hazardous materials from landfills; removing compostable organics from landfills; and reusing or recycling construction, remodeling, and demolition debris.
