Advancing Pennsylvania's Housing Futures: Sealing Eviction Records for Housing Stability and Economic Prosperity

Eviction records can cause irreparable harm to families, disrupt workforce participation, and strain support systems. These impacts are disproportionately felt by Black and Latinx women. To create a more fair and equitable rental housing market, states such as Pennsylvania enact legislation to seal eviction records. This report analyzes policies that identify and address gaps in protections for tenants with a previous eviction record, and in California, Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, and other states to guide lawmakers enacting similar tenant protections.Eviction records can cause irreparable harm to families, disrupt workforce participation, and strain support systems.
