Policy Areas Children & Families, Education, Public Safety
One of the most effective ways to prevent crime is to provide children with the parental support and programs needed to be successful, productive members of society. This report discusses four steps Oregon policymakers should take to support children's success and improve public safety: (1) make high-quality early care and education (ECE) programs available to all kids ages birth-to-five; (2) offer voluntary parent coaching to low-income parents through home visiting programs; (3) create anti-bullying programs at schools and afterschool programs; and (4) provide interventions to kids in contact with the juvenile justice system.
