Recognizing the mental health and physical health of children in poverty who have been impacted by the COVID lockdowns, Scranton, PA launched an innovative outdoor exposure program that helped children engage with outdoor spaces. By introducing a City Parks Passports to children and their families, the city was able to encourage use of parks and playgrounds. The program has served more than 4,400 children under 5 years old and continues to help kids explore new parks.
