Type Policy Brief or Report
Year 2014
Level City or Town
State(s) All States
Policy Areas Civil Rights, Community Development, Democracy & Governance, Economic Justice, Education, Health, Housing
This report is based on the practical experience and struggle of elected officials and advocates from around the country in moving their communities onto the "high road" of shared prosperity, environmental sustainability, and efficient democratic government. Its goal is to arm progressive local elected leaders and advocates with a range of effective policies that, if adopted, would make a significant difference in getting on that high road. In each policy area, the authors describe the need for action and the goals of progressive policy. Then they describe hundreds of key proven strategies for reaching those goals, and within those strategies several specific steps that can be taken toward their effective implementation. They also provide specific examples from cities that have already taken the described approach.
