Race for Results: Building a Pathway to Opportunity for All Children

Type Policy Brief or Report
Year 2024
Level National, State
State(s) All States
Policy Areas Children & Families, Civil Rights, Economic Justice, Education
Persistent racial and ethnic disparities in child well-being are evident nationwide. Local elected officials should implement targeted educational and economic policies to remove long-standing barriers and address the specific needs of children of color in their communities. Data from the Race for Results index is highlighted to illustrate the need for federal tax credits for low-income families, programs such as baby bonds to build economic security, and the expansion of Medicaid. Local communities are encouraged to collect data, engage with community members who face the steepest barriers to success, analyze the root causes of inequities, and use racial impact assessment tools and implementation measures to ensure policies achieve targeted goals.
