Type Policy Brief or Report
Year 2021
Level City or Town
State(s) Illinois, New York
Policy Areas Community Development, Environment & Natural Resources, Housing, Public Spaces
Though park projects can bring benefits to communities, cities are at threat of environmental gentrification or the influx of wealthy residents to historically disenfranchised neighborhoods due to new green spaces. This report identifies the need to utilize parks to garner the benefits they provide without pricing people out of their homes and provides recommendations. Best practices include implementing inclusionary zoning policies, coordinating with environmental justice advocates, and creating a criterion to double check the development process's stability.
