Rising sea levels pose threats to current planning, existing development, and ecological systems. These threats include flooding, enhanced storm surges, loss of infrastructure, destruction of wetlands and beaches, and increased risks for public health and safety. In response to these challenges, this report outlines steps local and state governments can take to reduce the risks associated with sea-level rise (SLR), including establishing requirements to protect building construction from flooding, restricting development in vulnerable areas, and imposing restrictions on development in floodplains.
