Give Michigan’s Prison Reentry Population the Tools to Thrive

Michigan's high incarceration and recidivism rates, driven by systemic inequities and underfunded reentry programs, impose significant social and economic costs on society. The state should expand investments in education, vocational training, and reentry support to help formerly incarcerated individuals secure jobs, housing, and access to social safety nets. Prioritizing these efforts, alongside reforms in discriminatory policing and sentencing practices, is critical to reducing racial disparities, strengthening communities, and addressing the root causes of recidivism.
