Democratising Ownership to Address Wealth Inequality

Type Policy Brief or Report
Year 2017
Level City or Town, State
State(s) All States
Policy Areas Community Development, Economic Justice
This report outlines broad-based ownership strategies and recommendations for how wealth can be generated and shared more equally across nations and regions, as well as gender, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups. These collective efforts of Community Wealth Building work to democratize the economy by broadening ownership over capital. The development of cooperative ownership across the United States is pointed to as a major shift that will continue to expand in the alternative vision of the American political economy. The current trajectory of deepening inequality and ongoing economic crises force the need for policy at the community level that allows for more equity across various categories such as wealth, health, and housing.
