Parking Reform for a Resilient Oahu Ordinance 20-41

Type Policy Brief or Report
Year 2020
Level City or Town, County
State(s) Hawaii
Policy Areas Transportation & Mobility
This ordinance eliminates minimum parking requirements for new homes and businesses in areas well-served by transit, and lowers minimums in other areas. Parking minimums require new buildings to provide a minimum amount of off-street parking space. This update enables developers to rightsize parking to meet market demand and promotes design that supports and accommodates clean and healthy transportation options, such as walking, bicycling, and taking transit. Eliminating minimum parking requirements lowers construction costs and improves housing affordability.
