This report compares the present-day conditions of early child care and education (ECE) workers to their conditions documented in the 1989 National Child Care Staffing Study. In particular, it discusses trends in wages, education, and turnover among early childhood teachers; analyzes the impact of economic insecurity on early childhood teachers and the public, as a whole; and outlines policy efforts to improve early childhood teaching jobs.
