Veterans tend to be older and more likely to have a disability than non-veterans. Thus, they are susceptible to preventable slips, falls, and other injuries related to mobility, which are costly and consume limited time and resources from first responders. To protect the safety and comfort of senior veterans who choose to age in their own homes and communities, this report urges local governments to make widespread, low-cost home modifications, like grab bars, wheelchair ramps, non-slip flooring, and more.
