To achieve growth in bicycling, bikeway design needs to meet the needs of a broader set of potential bicyclists. This report describes bikeway facilities (i.e. low-speed shared streets, protected bicycle lanes, and bicycle boulevards) that encourage safe bicycle-use for people of all ages and abilities, and provides guidance on which facilities would be appropriate to adopt based on a street’s design and traffic conditions. It also includes recommendations for street designs and strategies to reduce bicycling stress.
