Private water companies often over exploit publicly owned water resources, driving up prices and threatening sustainability. Policymakers and advocates must push back against private water companies to keep their water safe and affordable. This report exposes private companies' political and acquisition strategies and provides strategies for pushing back. Best practices include empowering public water authorities to speak out, assigning "right of first refusal" to neighborhood public authorities, and making residents fully informed stakeholders in the bidding process.
