This document is an internal performance evaluation of the City of Berkeley's Zero Waste goal of eliminating materials sent to landfills by the year 2020. According to this evaluation, the amount of solid waste sent to landfills from the Berkeley community dropped by approximately 50%, from 112,498 tons in 2000 to 56,189 tons in 2013. Solid waste disposal decreased 18% between 2012 and 2013. Additionally, the quantity of waste generated in Berkeley single-family homes, small multifamily buildings, and commercial sources that is sent to landfills has dropped each year between 2007 and 2010.
