Reforms to Construction Standards and Building Codes

Excessive or obsolete building standards and codes can increase development costs and depress construction activity. Local governments can support their housing supply by updating codes to allow developers to use new lower cost and higher-performing materials, coordinating codes with neighboring municipalities, eliminating unnecessary and costly building product requirements, and adopting existing model codes.
