The problem of regressive road pricing and its impact on low-income drivers is being addressed. The country should consider road pricing as a more transparent and efficient way to finance transportation infrastructure, while providing targeted assistance to low-income drivers. This policy relates to transportation finance, environmental sustainability, and social equity. Sales taxes, although popular, are also regressive and disproportionately burden the poor and non-users of toll roads. Road pricing can reduce traffic delays, fuel consumption, and vehicle emissions.
